Curtis Bumpy @ Berkeley Music Fest, Sat 8/23/2008

Curtis Bumpy has home field advantage, and will use it to lay down layer after layer of the greasy funky stuff. This time we’ll be joined by Paige Weber (Message of Love, Van Gogh’s Daughter), Latrice Barnett (Five Point Plan), and David James (The Coup, Spearhead) on vocals, and you never know who else.

Curtis Bumpy is the sweet, soulful incarnation of veteran rhythm killers Keith McArthur (bass) and Damon Wood (guitar), who have put together a formidable lineup of your favorite groove masters including drummer Jan Jackson, percussionist Josh Jones, keyboard man Jordan Glasgow and saxophonist David Agretelis. Add a surprise guest vocalists or two and you’ve got Curtis Bumpy: Rare-groove funk on a hot, buttered skillet. Mmmm, smells good! (CB’s collective CV includes classic East Bay ensembles such as The Smoking Section, Pothole, Motherbug, Hieroglyphics Ensemble, Papa’s Culture, Engine88 as well as a rack of marquee groups Mr. Bumpy is too modest to list).
