Curtis Bumpy at Boom Boom Room, 10/28/09

Hey Bumpy People,

We’ll be at the Boom Boom Room this Wednesday night, serving up 3 courses of greasy grooves, beginning at 9:00.

We’ll keep it sizzlin’ into the night, so come early, come late. Come get your fill of beat sustenance. You know you need it.

WHO: Curtis Bumpy, baby
WHEN: Wednesday, October 28, 2009 \ 9:00
WHERE: The Boom Boom Room \ 1601 Fillmore, SF \ http://www.boomboomblues.com

Hope to bump into you there.

Curtis Bumpy – Boom Boom Room, July 16

I’ll be chickin-pickin’ with Curtis Bumpy this Thursday night at the Boom Boom Room. We start the night roughly at 9:30 and play 3 sets. A great opportunity for us to cut loose and stretch out without the volume police on our backs for a change. Not that we’re super loud or anything… you get the point. Come early, we’ll be featuring Latrice Barnett in the first set; David James will be with us as well.

An Evening with Curtis Bumpy

Curtis Bumpy @ Jupiter (4/24/2009)

Curtis Bumpy is setting up residence at the Jupiter, playing every last Friday of the month in April, May and June.

Oh wow, that’s TONIGHT! I’d better get dressed.

Jupiter Brewing Co., 2181 Shattuck, Berkeley. 3 sets commencing at 8.

Sitting in for Josh on percussion tonight is my good friend Matt Willis, a monster player and all around great guy. Also with us tonight will be David James on guitar and vocals, the inimitable Latrice Barnett on vocals, and Christie Winn making her Curtis Bumpy debut on vocals.

Just to clarify

I’m not that Damon Wood.

It’s hilarious and ironic though. Imagine my bemusement: having had this fantasy for years that one day I’d be called (by, I don’t know, whoever makes those calls) to play in James Brown’s band… and then discovering one day that James Brown’s band did, in fact, fill that slot toward the end with some other blond white-boy guitarist named Damon Wood.

Would it… drive you nuts? Make you quietly giggle with the delusional certainty that the universe has played a very small and personal prank on you? Does the universe use The Google? Or does it just punish you for running one too many vanity searches?

What are the odds? Apparently, 100%.

Oh well. At least Prince* is still around… and I’ll bet he’s desperate for my help! Anyway, I’ve been meaning to clear that up for a while. I’m sure the music world will breathe a huge collective sigh of relief.

So, Damon: right on, bro! I mean, the other Damon.

*EDIT 2016: Ugh, my heroes are checking out left and right.

Show: Message of Love @ Kensington Circus, 5/3/08

The Bay Area’s Chrissiest Pretenders tribute band will be playing at Kensington Circus Pub this Saturday night, May 3. Family-friendly, in fact it’s practically family-required. I love the Circus. It’s the best place in the East Bay to bump into those friends of yours who just had kids in the last couple of years, who are desperate to get out of the house and have a beer in public but can’t get a babysitter. At least one of my kids will be there.

Message of Love will commence rocking at 9:00.

Show: Message of Love @ Red Devil, 3/15/08

The Chrissiest band I’ve ever been in does its very Chrissiest at the Red Devil Lounge next Saturday, March 15. We’re the first of 3 bands, so come early, come often, and stake out your place on the floor for a good, eye-liner-laced rocking. Headlining is the amazing Stung, who are famous for their extremely entertaining Police act. I love this pairing. In the middle slot is BudaBelly.
